Built in 1838 for William Burwell and his wife, the Avenel House sits on the site of a former plantation. The Ghost of Avenel, a lady wearing a long, white dress and holding a parasol is said to haunt the grounds, often appearing outside of the mansion where she paces around the property. She is believed to have been a former resident. Additional apparitions have been reported as well, including a girl standing in a window described as wearing a collared dress with her hair up in a bun, peering down at visitors. A phantom cat has been heard meowing inside the house, and disembodied voices have been heard too.

  • The Haunted Bedford Home

I went to this house during the evening. When i got there it seemed normal but then once you started to walk around you could feel the energy start to shift. there were multiple times when you could hear knocking on the walls, as well as hearing something drop behind you and you go to look and nothings there. looking back at photos you can see orbs as well as apparitions there.

  • Investigated at this location

My team (Portsmouth Paranormal Society) investigated this place on two different occasions even being a host team at one of the events there. We captured many EVP’s and heard disembodied voices.

  • My trip to the William Burwell House in Bedford Virginia

I went to the William Burwell House in Bedford one of the nicest looking streets I have seen hugh old school houses. When I got to the Burwell house it was pich dark around 9:45 also was raining as you can see in my pictures I took lighting very creepy I felt like something or someone was looking at me. The whole time was looking for the woman in the dress to starting walking in the yard it was a big yard 1800s style with the benches and all had a good vibe creepy tho I stayed for about 15 mins then I left after that I got hit by a bad rain Strom 6/17/2016 but made it home safely awesome experience I plan on going back in the day time and night again.
