Sailor's Creek Battlefield State Park in Rice is where the last 72 hours of the Civil War were fought. The battle was bloody and a ton of General Robert E. Lee’s army ended up either killed, captured, or badly hurt. The Confederates were in need of a hospital, so they made a makeshift one at the Overton-Hillsman farmhouse on the property. Numerous amounts of soldiers were buried in mass on the property and they are said to linger the grounds to this day in spirit.
