The Spotsylvania Court House dates back to 1840 and features Roman Revival architecture. During the Battle of the Wilderness, the court house was devastated by artillery fire but was repaired in 1900 and has since been well preserved. The court house was the town's central point and it witnessed the most gore throughout the battle.
Many believe the soldiers who lost their lives during the bloody battle still linger in spirit to this day. Witnesses have reported feelings of sadness and cold immediately upon visiting the location.
